Racing
One-Design Racing at ILYC
One-design racing is a cornerstone of sailing at Indian Lake Yacht Club. Most Sundays throughout the summer, sailors gather for competitive, well-run racing where boats race boat-for-boat and skill makes the difference.
Race days begin with a Skippers’ Meeting at the Club, followed by a sail out to a course set by our experienced race committee. Depending on conditions, fleets typically sail one to three races and are back at the dock just a couple of hours later. The racing can be spirited, but it’s always friendly—and the dock talk afterward is just as valuable as the racing itself.
ILYC’s one-design sailors are known for sharing knowledge and helping new teams improve, making this an ideal place to learn, grow, and race better every week. Top performers are recognized with end-of-season awards for the top three finishers in each fleet.

MC Scows — “The Fun Fleet!”
The MC Scow fleet—affectionately known as “The Fun Fleet!”—is where competition, learning, and pure enjoyment collide.
MC sailors take advantage of good sailing conditions with less formal racing on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings, jumping on the water whenever the breeze cooperates. The fleet attracts sailors who enjoy single handing, love tight racing, quick learning curves, and a laid-back but energetic culture.
On Saturdays following Youth Sailing Camp, new junior skippers sailing Sunfish often join the MCs on the course, creating a unique and supportive environment for spirited skills development. It’s a natural bridge from youth sailing to lifelong racing—fast, fun, and encouraging.
If you’re looking for a fleet that values improvement, camaraderie, and smiles per mile, the MCs at ILYC are always happy to welcome another boat to the line.
