One Design Racing: Skill Over Equipment
One Design sailing is the purest test of sailing skill. All boats in the fleet are identical, which means races are decided by the crew—not the checkbook. Sail trim, boat handling, tactics, teamwork, and understanding the wind are what separate the fleet.
Races are governed by the internationally recognized Racing Rules of Sailing, ensuring fair competition, safety, and sportsmanship. These rules guide starts, mark roundings, right-of-way, and on-the-water decision-making. Handicap Racing & Day Sailing: Competition and Pure Enjoyment
Not everyone sails the same boat—and that’s where Performance Handicap Racing (PHRF) shines. Handicap racing allows different boats to compete together using a fair rating system that balances performance differences. It’s competitive, social, and accessible, making it a favorite for sailors who want the thrill of racing without changing boats.
